Esperanza

To say that I was gobsmacked by the Esperanza Resort and the incomparable experience they offer their guests, is truly an understatement of EPIC proportions.  The getaway that Whiskey and I took to the paradise that is the idyllic Esperanza Resort, with its postcard setting on the Sea of Cortez, rewrote the story of my heart.

Let me just start with, before this incredible Mexican getaway, I always claimed, and quite honestly wholeheartedly believed, I was just not a beach person.  I firmly held onto the “fact” that I simply had not been born with the beach gene. I was a mountain girl. Growing up,  summer vacations were only, ever, road trips to the cooler mountain air and lower temps of Colorado.

Our trip to Cabo began as a birthday surprise for Whiskey’s 40th, but it morphed into the perfect vessel of rejuvenation and relaxation we didn’t even know we needed.  Arriving at this lovely piece of the Baja Peninsula, we were immediately escorted to a vast and panoramic view of the bluest heaven of the Vermillion Sea. The mingling of the salty sea air, the rhythmic waves dancing their way in and out of the tide, with the tangy taste of passion fruit margarita on our lips, Whiskey leaned over, kissing me gently, and suddenly all that was heavy in my world was Light. After only a hand-full of minutes in this delightful Mexican hideaway, my breath was steadied, my shoulders relaxed, my heart lifted and all that had felt wrong in my world was suddenly set right. In mere moments I had gained the deep benefits of a true vacation, and we hadn’t yet even seen our rooms.

The getaway that Whiskey and I took to the paradise that is the idyllic Esperanza Resort, with its postcard setting on the Sea of Cortez, rewrote the story of my heart.

At the Esperanza, an Auberge Resorts Collection, there is nothing subtle about the rejuvenating quality that the resort offers, but everything else, the seamless service, the attention to detail, the meticulous beauty of the grounds and suites, is dialed into to a level of service that I would describe as “invisible.”  There was not a single moment that a need I didn’t even know I had, was being attended to, and with great and genuine enthusiasm and grace by all who are employed at this dynamic resort.  It is truly unparalleled, the lengths that the staff go to ensure that your stay is not only one to remember, but one that calls you back again and again.  I was thinking, and dreaming and hoping, of our next trip to the Esperanza before our vacation had yet ended.  That is the mark of an exquisite hotel.  That, and the fact that we never left the grounds of the resort.  We didn’t need to!  Everything that a heart cold desire on a beach vacation was literally at our fingertips the duration of our pitch perfect vacation in Cabo.

The food at each of the resort’s numerous restaurants was fresh, expertly executed and delectable.  Whiskey and I ate the best, and most phenomenal, fish tacos we have ever put in our mouths, EVERY single day, at the swim-up-bar of La Palapa.  As we floated in the cool waters of the ineffably beautiful pool, with the soothing waves of the sea crashing behind, we would watch as the genius line cooks created taco plates that would not just sustain us, but invigorate and excite us, day after day! (I seriously dream about those tacos, with their beautiful accoutrements of watermelon radish, red, green and orange salsas, pink pickled onions and spicy aioli!)  The food we feasted on was as fresh, local and as perfect as the stunning Mexican views.

If I had it my way, I would spend a few days every September at the Esperanza resort.  It is a place that has not only stolen my heart, but has altered it…I have found a place that ministers to my heart, my body, and my soul.  This stunning resort has become a touchstone in my life.  It has expanded my understanding of heart-rest and the rejuvenating effects of sand, sea and sky.  I can honestly say that my time there proved to be the most relaxed I have ever felt in my life.  I already ache for the slow and steady pace that exists and is promoted at the Esperanza, and I am counting the days until I rest my weary head there again.
